What does the Save the Children Europe Group do?
Current activities include:
- ensuring children's rights are a political priority for the EU Institutions and EU Member States,and that the EU renews and acts on its commitments towards children's rights as set out in the Lisbon Treaty
- ensuring that the EU plays a role in supporting good governance for children
- ensuring that children's rights are taken into account in all aspects of the EU's development policy and that the EU takes a global, comprehensive human rights based approach towards the Millennium Development Goals, based on children's rights, equity, gender equality and sustainability
- working on the global Save the Children campaign "Every One" to ensure that the EU commits to policy interventions and funding for basic healthcare and to combat malnutrition in developing countries.
- bringing attention to child protection, including children and armed conflict and emergencies in all aspects of the EU's external policies and action
- assisting separated children who arrive in or cross Europe by influencing the policy and on a common asylum policy at European level
- working to monitor and influence EU policy and legislation on children and new technologies, including child abuse images
