Deputy Country Director, Programs, Haiti (Save the Children US)

Save the Children in Haiti seeks a Deputy Country Director, Programs (DCD/P) to help lead a dynamic and diverse set of programmes, based in Port au Prince.  The DCD/P maintains responsibility for the direction and coordination of all Save the Children Haiti’s programs. He/she is responsible for the design, implementation, evaluation, and analysis of all program activities; the direction and supervision of our committed technical staff; and coordinating with colleagues to ensure appropriate financial and administrative management support to all program activities.

As leader of programmes, and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the DCD/P assists with all strategic and operational planning processes and represents Save the Children’s values and principles in interactions with staff and partners. The DCD/P will assist the CD in representing the agency before donors, government representatives, partner agencies, local institutions and the media, on behalf of Save the Children in Haiti.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in an area related to the work of Save the Children preferred and experience within a Save the Children Country Office desirable.
  • At least five years’ experience managing and directing field operations for an international relief and development agency, including supervisory experience;
  • A good understanding of resource and financial management;
  • Knowledge of donor regulations and experience in management of donor funded programs, including USAID strongly preferred; 
  • Experience in and commitment to participatory management and to capacity building and mentoring of staff.
  • Good communication skills and fluency in written and spoken English and French and/or Haitian Creole.
  • Understanding of and commitment to principles of child rights and child protection;
  • Strong interpersonal, communications, organizational, team building, partnering and representational skills.
  • Strong computer skills (MS word, Excel, PP, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel extensively to rural areas under difficult conditions.
