18 Years of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

On November 20, 1989 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The Convention outlines the rights and responsibilities of every child and young person under the age of 18. A result of more than 60 years of advocacy, the UNCRC has now been ratified more quickly and by more governments than any other human rights instrument.

Save the Children fights for children around the world who suffer from poverty, disease, injustice and violence. We work in over 120 countries around the world, delivering immediate and lasting improvements for millions of children.

On the 20 November, the UNCRC marked its 18th anniversary. We take a look at how our work, underpinned by the UNCRC, is making children's rights a reality for millions.
