Save the Children has been working in Bangladesh since 1972 and in recent years has worked to prepare coastal communities for cyclones.
Disaster preparedness and risk reduction (DPRR) can be a major factor in preventing the loss of lives in natural disasters. Save the Children conducted emergency cyclone drills for some 10,000 residents living in the area where in November 2007, Cyclone Sidr struck. This preparation helped save tens of thousands of lives.
