Children risk being abused and exploited in many ways: through physical or humiliating punishment at home or in schools, through child labour, trafficking, sexual abuse and the use of girls and boys as soldiers.

Above: Sao Boeung, (7) collects garbage in Stung Meanchey Waste Dump, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He earns around $0.25 to $0.5 per day. Many families who live in the dump have had to leave their village where it is no longer possible to grow the soil. Unable to find work in the city, these families have no money to live elsewhere. Many children have no other option but to help their parents by picking plastics, cardboard and glass which they find in the waste dump and is then sold to buy food, soap and simple household goods.
