Today, there are 75 million children out of school worldwide and more than half of them — 40 million — live in conflict-affected fragile states. In addition, on average each year 750,000 more children have their education disrupted or miss out entirely owing to humanitarian disasters.
Save the Children is committed to ensuring that a child’s right to education is ensured, even in the most difficult situations.
“When a war comes to an end, the peace agreement is the blueprint for that country’s future. Education has got to be part of that blueprint if we’re serious about building lasting peace and avoiding children’s lives sliding back into war again,” said Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, Secretary General, International Save the Children Alliance.
