Education in Emergencies is a Right
Louise Cyring Nielson / Save the Children
Quality education equips children with skills and knowledge

In the immediate aftermath of an emergency, education can help save lives by providing critical life saving information, or protecting children from recruitment into armed groups or trafficking. Continuing to attend school provides children with a sense of normalcy and hope for the future.

Over the longer term, quality education equips children with skills and knowledge, such as critical thinking and understanding and respect for human rights – these skills can empower children to take a more active role in their community, increase their earning potential, and improve their ability to help themselves and their families break out of the poverty cycle.
