During the storm, the nearby lake overflowed and engulfed the surrounding homes. Many children and their families together with their few belongings took refuge from the waters in emergency shelters.
Throughout the day, many parents leave the evacuation centre to go home to salvage belongings or earn a little money, leaving their children alone or in the care of extended family.
Crowded together, families still have no indication when they can return home, whole neighbourhoods remain underwater and many affected areas still lack electricity, sanitation and even the vital, initial step of garbage removal.
