STATE OF THE WORLD'S MOTHERS REPORT 2010
On Tuesday, May 4 we release our annual report which identifies which countries are succeeding - and countries that are failing - to improve the lives of the poorest mothers and children. With a focus on the critical importance of community health workers, it recommends effective solutions to this challenge. The 11th annual Mothers' Index (based on the latest data on health, nutrition, education and political participation) ranks 160 countries - both in the industrialized and developing world - to show where mothers fare best and where they face the greatest hardships.

HAITI EARTHQUAKE: SAVE THE CHILDREN'S EMERGENCY RESPONSE FOR THE CHILDREN OF HAITI
On March 31 there will be a UN Donor conference to focus on long-term reconstruction; we'll be there calling on donor governments to support healh, protection and education needs. The long-term needs of children will include rebuilding and extension of health infrastructure, and hiring of health workers.

Save the Children's Newborn Health Expert, Dr. Joy Lawn, is featured in a BBC World Documentary which examines How Nepal and Malawi Make Gains in Saving Newborn Lives.
"While the numbers are daunting, Malawi and Nepal demonstrate major life-saving progress is being made," says Charles MacCormack, president of Save the Children US. "These countries are shining examples of what can be accomplished when governments, United Nations agencies, donors and non-governmental organizations work together to support health systems in low-income countries."
