Rewrite the Future - Campaign Background

No child should have to pay the price for adult's wars.

In conflict-affected fragile states (CAFS), one in three children is out of school, a total of 39 million worldwide. Without education, and without protection, they are being denied both their childhood and hope for the future.

Rewrite the Future, Save the Children's first global campaign in our 90 year history, is focused on securing quality education for the millions of children out of school due to war and armed conflict. We are calling for change for these children, and we've made a direct difference ourselves by improving the quality of education for over 10 million children living in conflict-affected countries.

Save the Children lobbies internationally and has secured high-profile recognition of the importance of education for children affected by armed conflict - from the G8 to the UN Security Council. This has dramatically benefited our cause: in 2008, governments in Colombia, Denmark, Liberia, Uganda and the USA made significant policy or funding changes to support education in conflict-affected areas.
