Hundreds of\nFijian children going hungry after COVID-19 decimated their families\u2019 incomes will\nreceive life-saving grocery packs thanks to the generosity of Kiwis giving to\nSave the Children New Zealand\u2019s emergency appeal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Launched three\nweeks ago, New Zealanders have contributed a massive $130,000 to the appeal to\nfeed Fiji with packs containing much-needed food\nsupplies, soap, surgical masks, nappies and sanitary pads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So far, the aid has already reached 165\nfamilies in dire need with around 650 more to be reached in the next week, but\nSave the Children says since launching the appeal, they have had many more\nrequests and the money will help feed 1800 families in need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Save the\nChildren New Zealand Chief Executive Heidi Coetzee says the team was humbled by\nthe generosity of Kiwis to their Pacific neighbours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe originally\nhoped to raise $50,000 but every day we\u2019ve heard from more and more people in\nneed. We\u2019re delighted to have raised this significant contribution and we hope\nit will go some way towards alleviating the intense pressure many families in\nFiji are currently facing. These grocery packs will help save the lives of many\nchildren and help protect a generation for Fiji\u2019s future rebuild.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Save the Children Fiji\u2019s Chief Executive Shairana Ali says the\norganisation is extremely grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the\nNew Zealand public to help Fijian families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe donated funds will reach families in the central and western\ndivision of Viti Levu, the main island which is severely impacted by COVID-19.\nWe will continue to work closely with our colleagues in Save the Children New\nZealand to deliver programmes and services that help improve children\u2019s health\nand well-being in Fiji.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
